In the Navy

I finally used Orly's "Royal Navy" which is shaping up to be one of the summer's coolest new polishes.
I tried to capture the colour accurately, and you can see some of that subtle turquoise shimmer showing through. When you are in direct sunlight, it glitters a little more.

I took these pics next to a window.

It is such an amazing colour, that I didn't even want to Konad over it!

I couldn't resist using a spool of boondoggle (or "gimp") that I bought to make bracelets with my kids this summer.  The colour was right on!

My husband loves the colour because it matches his new car! Ha ha ha :)

Hope you enjoy this post. Let me know if you have or want this colour, and what you think of it.

Over the Top in Pink, White & Green (pic heavy)

Okay, so I know this mani is a little bonkers, but I felt like doing something fun this week.

I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in "White Out" and "Going Green" and S.H. New Lengths Ceramics in "Cerise".  I stamped various Konad designs in Konad Special White.

I used polka dots and bows to tie the nails together. The thumb, pinky and ring finger use all three colours together, but the pointer and middle fingers have one colour plus white dots.

The pink dots on the ring finger were made using "Cerise" and a dotting tool because I didn't have any Konad Special pink. At first I wasn't happy because the pink dots look irregular, but now I think it adds something unique to the overall look.

On the pinky, I free-handed a stripe of each colour and then added some green glitter down the centre. I got the glitters in my free sample package from Viva La Nails. I like them because they are flatter than rhinestones, but when I added topcoat, the colour from them smudged a little onto the white polish.

So, do you think this manicure belongs to an insane person? My son told me they look like nails that a clown would wear. Ha ha ha!

Have a great week, and let me know what you think of this manicure.

B&W Konadi

This weekend we were invited to a birthday party, and the hosts asked everyone to dress in black and white. So, of course I had to plan a suitable b&w themed manicure!
To achieve this look, I painted 2 coats of Sally Hansen "Black Out". Then I stamped the pattern from m70 in Konad Special White  all over my nail. After that I was unhappy with the look because, from a distance, instead of looking like a black and white pattern, my nails just looked grey. So I decided to paint the moons with the "Black Out".

As you can see, they certainly aren't perfect because I free-handed the moons. Nevertheless, I am pretty pleased with how it turned out in the end.

Hope you had a great weekend, everyone.  What did you think of this manicure? Is black and white too "bleh" for the summer when everyone else is wearing brights or pastels? Please leave me some feedback because I love to hear from you!

EOTD - One I forgot to post

Hmm...I can't remember everything that I used for this look because I did it awhile ago and just forgot to post the pics. The main thing I wanted to feature was MAC's eyeshadow called Club.
It's a really unique shadow because it looks brownish/reddish but when applied wet it really becomes greenish too. It has a really cool duochrome effect and is great for a smoky eye look.

I winged up a black line using MAC's creme liner which I bought at a Pro Store location. I apply it with a wet thin eyeliner brush. This adds some definition to the eye and helps make my eyelashes look thicker.
I think I blended the Club e/s up into the crease using Haux which is a reddish brown colour.  For the highlight under the brow bone I like to use Blanc Type e/s which is an almost soft creamy powder matte, if that makes sense. It has an awesome formulation. I like to contrast the texture of the eyelid with the brow bone, so if I use something shimmery on the lid, I go matte for the hightlight. If I use something matte on the lid, I'll do a slightly shimmery highlight on the brow bone.

I have been taking a bit more time to fill in my brows lately, and I'm finding it makes a big difference in how polished the overall look is.   I use an angle brush and Coquette e/s.

Hope you like this look.
Have a great day, everybody.  Feel free to leave me your comments!

Change of Pace - S9

Hey everyone,
for this manicure, I felt like keeping it simple. I used Finger Paints "Curator's Coral" which is a bright reddish/orangey/pinkish colour.  I only stamped a design from S9 on the ring finger and added a small green rhinestone I got from the free sample package Viva La Nails sent me.

If you're a nail blogger, go to this link on the Viva La Nails website, and simply request the sample package. They sent it for free and it came pretty quickly!

I put a dot of Seche Vite topcoat in the centre of the flower and placed the rhinestone on it.  I sealed the stamped design in Konad Special White and the rhinestone with a thick coat of Seche Vite.

The weather here in Toronto is so awesome the last few days, and this manicure seems to match the hot, sunny weather to me.  Hope it is sunny where you are! Have a great weekend, everybody!
